Being a mum brings with it some of life’s greatest gifts; your body spent months stretching and adjusting to accommodate your growing baby.
Pregnancy and childbirth are associated with dramatic changes in women’s body shape and size, and for many women, these changes are perceived negatively, resulting in a negative body image. The appearance of your body after having children can be a source of frustration, as no amount of exercise, strengthening or dieting can restore lost skin elasticity or muscle tone.
A study by UK Mother & Baby magazine found that 86 percent of women said that they felt less attractive post-pregnancy, while a similar number were unhappy with their weight and shocked by the changes in their body afterwards.
A Mummy Makeover is a descriptive term, which refers to a combination of procedures that address the unwanted effects of pregnancy that cannot be reversed through diet and exercise. A makeover is not just for recent mothers, some women decide to wait several years before deciding to treat themselves
When to consider a Mummy Makeover
The procedures described below are used by our team to satisfy the demands of some new and not so new mums
Liposuction – Liposuction is the surgical removal of fat deposits from specific parts of the body. Common sites include the hips, outer and inner thighs, abdomen, lower back, knees and neck. Using a hollow instrument called a cannula, the doctor moves in a specific pattern through the fat layer to break up fatty deposits, which are then removed with a vacuum..
Liposculpture – Liposculpture is a more refined, less invasive method of fat removal with more attention paid to finer details. The cannula is used as a sculpting tool to contour and shape, rather than just simply a device for circumferential reduction.
VASERlipo– The VASERlipo procedure is considered to be less traumatic with a quicker recovery time when compared to Liposuction. First the area to be reshaped is filled with a tumescent saline solution. A small probe then transmits the ultrasound energy to break up and dislodge the fat. Next, a cannula removes the dislodged fat through a gentle suction process.
Fat Transfer – Autologous fat transfer uses fat from a person’s thighs, stomach or buttocks and implants it into other target areas. After the fat is removed via Liposuction it is spun in a centrifuge, which removes unnecessary fluid. It is then injected through very fine cannulas into the desired areas.
Tummy Tuck – Abdominoplasty or a “tummy tuck” is a procedure that removes loose skin and excessive fat from the abdomen and tightens the abdominal muscles for improved tone and function. The procedure also allows for repair for the abdominal muscles that may have stretched during pregnancy that may have lead to lower abdominal bulging.
The combination of procedures that would best suit your needs and wants is determined after a detailed consultation with one of our cosmetic doctors.
