13 Things You Didn’t Know About Thread Lifts

Thread lifts have been around for a few years, but are now gaining a lot of traction in Australia due to their great results and minimal invasiveness. The procedure involves using dissolvable ‘threads’ to increase the production of collagen under your skin, which causes it to become firmer.

This greatly reduces the signs of aging, such as sagging skin and drooping eyes. Thread lifts have multiple benefits and advantages over more traditional methods, and are now becoming more popular with those wanting to look younger and fresher without a great deal of hassle.

What’s the difference between a thread lift and a traditional face lift?

A thread lift enhances your existing features by tightening and smoothing out your skin and features. It’s less invasive than a traditional facelift, has a shorter recovery time and is cheaper.

Thread lifts are designed to appear more ‘natural’, as opposed to traditional facelifts which carry the risk of a person looking plastic and fake. They’re generally intended to reduce the signs of aging rather than provide a total transformation to a different look.

What parts of my face can a thread lift improve?

Thread lifts raise the brows, cheeks, neck and jowls. They also soften lines around the mouth and nose.

How long does a thread lift procedure take?

Thread lifts are a short and non-invasive procedure, only taking around an hour. They also have a quicker recovery time than most other types of procedure.

Is a thread lift painful?

Not at all! The procedure is quick, simple and performed with local anaesthetic.

Some patients prefer to have the procedure performed while they are under general anaesthetic, but there’s no real need, since we will provide you with sedation and nerve blocks. This means that you won’t feel any pain during the procedure and will be able to recover much quicker afterwards.

How long does it take to recover after a thread lift?

You will have tape on your face after the procedure for at least 3 days. However, we recommend 5 days for best results.

Once the tape has come off, you’re free to return to normal activities.

When can I return to work after a thread lift?

Once the tape is removed then you’re all good to go. That means a rest period of about 3-5 days, with 5 days/a work week being the safest option for a full recovery.

Can I choose to go under a general anaesthetic?

Thread lifts are very simple and much quicker than most forms of cosmetic surgery, so there’s no need for general anaesthetic.

How long will the results last?

Thread lifts results are permanent. The lifted skin will not drop again; however, there’s no stopping the ageing process, so your skin will overall begin to sag again naturally.

There’s no need to worry, since we can repeat the process at any time.

Does a thread lift leave scars?

The procedure carries practically no risk of scarring whatsoever. Any potential tiny scars will be hidden behind your hairline and thus never visible.

Are thread lifts common? Who would I know of who has had this done?

Thread lifts are certainly becoming more and more common as people realise that the results look much more natural, with less of a ‘plastic’ feel.

Glamorous celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Kim Kardashian are rumoured to have had the procedure done.

What results can I expect?

The overall goal of thread lifts is not to make you totally unrecognisable, but to make your skin look much younger and fresher.

They give you tighter skin overall, fighting the signs of ageing and giving you a more defined jawline, removing the loose skin and sagging below the chin, greatly reducing puffiness on the cheeks and tightening the skin below the eyes.

How much does a thread lift cost?

The typical cost of the procedure is $3500.

I’ve got a bit of a double chin and thick neck. Can you do something about this in the same session?

Of course! With the usual medical consultations beforehand, we’re happy to perform multiple procedures in the same setting.

Many patients find that they achieve excellent outcomes, as well as saving time and money, by combining services into one session.
