Real People, Real Results.
Below, we explain the gynecomastia condition briefly. However, if you would like to learn in depth, please click the heading just above. The common condition which leads to this abnormal growth in breast tissue is called Gynecomastia. Occurring from birth, or in puberty, the condition affects the gland tissue within the breast area due to a hormonal imbalance. As a result, the gland tissue becomes enlarged.
When this hormonal imbalance occurs, estrogen levels tend to increase, and when the amount of estrogen outweighs the amount of male testosterone hormone, the glands begin to grow. It’s at this stage where the condition develops into Gynaecomastia.
Fortunately, there are treatments available which can decrease the amount of excess breast tissue in just a couple of hours.
How Do You Reduce Man Breasts?
The reduction of man breasts can be achieved in one of two ways. Following a consultation and tissue analysis, your surgeon will select to either remove the excess tissue via liposuction or surgical incision.
What is the Surgery for Gynecomastia?
At our Sydney clinic, we offer two surgery options for male breast reduction:
- Liposuction – Considered the less invasive option, liposuction is the fastest way to remove excess fat and tissue via a small incision in each breast. There’s minimal downtime involved, and very minimal scarring. We are able to use either thetraditional method of liposuction or we can use VASER assisted liposuction for more stubborn fat.
- Excision – For the more extreme cases of Gynecomastia, surgery may be required. By creating two surgical incisions, the surgeon has the ability to remove more of the gland tissue to ensure a flatter, firmer chest.
The procedure will be performed with local anaesthetic along with conscious sedation. You will be awake but your breast tissue will be numb and the sedation will make you feel very comfortable.
What are the Side Effects of Gynecomastia Surgery?
The majority of patients will feel no pain. There will be a small amount of swelling post-treatment, however the results will be visible almost immediately. The swelling will continually reduce and the final results should be seen around 3 to 6 months post treatment.
Downtime & Recovery
While both options for male breast reduction surgery are day surgeries, it’s recommended to refrain from exercise and any strenuous activity including lifting heavy objects for at least one week. Exhaustive physical exercise such as weight lifting that involves the chest should be minimised for at least 2 to 3 weeks. This may be longer – our doctor will advise you.
How Much Does It Cost for Male Breast Reduction?
The cost will vary from patient to patient and will depend on how we need to approach your treatment. Generally, you are looking at around $4,500 to $6,500 for the treatment. We will confirm the cost during a consultation.
